eSIM availability
eSIM launched on 2024-12-05 through the 4 mobile operators. A compatible device is required. Foreign applicants need an original passport and proof of residence for SIM registration; airport-counter availability and prices remain unconfirmed.
Cash declaration
Declare foreign cash at USD 10,000 or equivalent on arrival; the airport wording warrants declaring at the threshold. Carry no more than EGP 5,000. On departure the foreign-cash ceiling is USD 10,000, except a non-Egyptian visitor may take the unused amount declared on arrival.
Duty-free allowance
For tourists and transit visitors, the published personal-goods allowance is EGP 15,000 for non-commercial new items, plus the specified tobacco and alcohol allowances: 200 cigarettes or 25 cigars or 200 g tobacco, and 1 litre of spirits.
Medicines
Bring only medicine for personal use with supporting documents. Customs clearance may require the competent authority’s approval; confirm the exact medicine before travel.
Overstaying
An overstay can result in a fine. The amount and extension procedure depend on the case; confirm with the passport and immigration authority before the authorised stay ends.
Leaving the country
Keep evidence of lawful entry. Charter arrivals must leave by charter and scheduled-flight arrivals by scheduled service under the published airline instructions.

Frequently asked questions

How much is the Egyptian tourist eVisa?
The portal lists USD 30 for a single entry and USD 65 for multiple entries. Cairo arrival QR issuance is a separate route costing USD 36 including a USD 6 service charge.
Can Iraqi citizens obtain the Egyptian eVisa?
The ministry expressly allows the electronic route for holders under 16 or over 60, at the current single-entry fee of USD 30. The portal lists Iraq without that age qualification. Adults outside the exception should arrange the required advance approval. Sources differ; confirm with the embassy or your airline.
Can a Gulf resident get a visa on arrival in Egypt?
A qualifying GCC residence and re-entry entitlement valid for at least 6 calendar months can permit an arrival visa. Passport and employment-category exceptions apply. Check the passport rule and carry a return ticket and sufficient funds.
Can I show the Egyptian eVisa on my phone?
The official instructions require a printout. Print the approved electronic visa and carry it with your passport, itinerary and supporting documents.
When should I apply for the Egyptian eVisa?
Apply at least 7 days before departure. This is the recommended minimum lead time, not a guarantee that an application will be approved within that period.
Does the South Sinai stamp allow a visit to Cairo?
The stamp is limited to the specified South Sinai visitor area for up to 15 days and eligible ports. It does not itself authorise travel throughout Egypt. Canadian guidance states a shorter 14-day allowance.
Is EgyptAir transit in Cairo visa-free?
EgyptAir publishes a free transit visa for eligible arrival-visa passengers connecting for 8–96 hours. Arrange it through the Cairo transit office; an onward ticket alone does not establish eligibility. Airside rules remain unconfirmed here.
How long must my passport be valid?
The electronic portal requires at least 6 months from arrival. Canadian guidance requests 6 months beyond departure; Canadian holders should use that stricter limit pending confirmation.
Which bank cards can I use for the eVisa?
The official application instructions list Visa, Mastercard and other debit cards. Confirm that your card supports the online transaction and retain the payment record.
Do children need their own Egyptian visa?
A child holding a separate passport needs a separate visa. London also requests a parental letter when a child under 16 applies without an adult. Additional passport-specific conditions can apply.
