Transit visa checker

Choose your passport, the country where you change planes, and whether you stay in the airport. We apply the researched transit rules and say plainly when something is not confirmed.

Calculations run in your browser; files are not uploaded. Links you choose to share can include trip details.

Result

Airlines check transit rules before boarding, including for the airport where you change planes.

How it works

We use each country’s transit record: whether staying in the transit area needs a visa, for which passports, who is exempt (holders of certain visas or residents of certain countries), and whether visa-free transit exists for a number of hours.

If you leave the airport you enter the country, so the normal entry rule applies unless a visa-free transit scheme fits your passport and your hours.

Where sources do not confirm the answer, the result says “you may need a visa”: the cautious reading.

Questions

Do I need a transit visa if I stay in the airport?
It depends on the country and your passport. Some countries require nothing in the transit area; others require an airside transit visa for certain passports, with exemptions for holders of certain visas or residence permits.
Does the airline check this?
Yes. Airlines check transit requirements before boarding and can refuse a passenger who does not meet them.
