The entry window
For a US visa, the expiry date concerns when it can be used to request entry. The admission record, not that visa date, determines the authorised stay. This example must not be applied to another destination automatically.
A rolling limit
For Schengen short stays, count back 180 days from each day of the visit. A visa allowing fewer than 90 days still limits the stay; the general calculator cannot replace that shorter allowance.
Before deciding
- Find the valid-from and valid-until fields.
- Find the allowed stay and any rolling-period rule.
- Check the admission record where one is issued.
