Passport validity checker

Enter your trip and your passport’s expiry date. We apply each destination’s rule and show the date your passport must be valid until.

Calculations run in your browser; files are not uploaded. Links you choose to share can include trip details.

How it works

Many countries require your passport to stay valid for a period after you travel, usually 3 or 6 months. Some count from the day you arrive, some from the day you leave, and some from the end of the stay you are allowed.

We use the recorded passport validity rule. If its duration or counting basis is unconfirmed, the result remains unconfirmed and the destination is excluded from confirmed results.

Airlines check passport validity at check-in and can refuse boarding, even where the destination itself might be flexible.

For the Schengen Area the passport must be valid for at least 3 months after the date you plan to leave and must have been issued within the previous 10 years (Schengen Borders Code, Article 6).

Questions

What is the six-month rule?
Many countries require your passport to be valid for at least 6 months, counted from arrival or from departure depending on the country. Others ask for 3 months or for the length of your stay.
Is it counted from arrival or from departure?
It depends on the country. We show its documented counting basis and mark the result unconfirmed when that basis is unavailable.
My passport expires soon. Where can I still travel?
Use “Where can I still travel?” in the tool: enter your expiry date, travel date and trip length to see which destinations accept your passport and which need a longer validity.
Do airlines check passport validity?
Yes. Airlines check entry requirements before boarding and can refuse a passenger whose passport is not valid long enough.
