How to apply for the Malaysia visa, step by step

Single-entry social visa
Check the passport route
Check the visa-required list, nationality stay limit and country of application.
Create and verify the account
Register an account and complete email verification. Sign-in uses a password and a 6-digit emailed code.
Complete the application
Enter matching passport details and upload the photo, passport, itinerary, accommodation and financial documents.
Review and pay
Correct errors before paying. The total includes the visa fee, MYR 105 processing and the payment surcharge.
Answer document requests
Monitor email and the account. Additional-document processing restarts the 2–7 working-day period.
Carry the approval and complete MDAC
Carry the approved digital or printed visa. Submit MDAC in its separate 3-day arrival window when required.

When: Arrival must fall within 3 days, including the submission date; submit before arrival.
Who: Most foreign entrants. Exemptions include Singapore citizens, diplomatic/official passports, Malaysian permanent residents and long-term-pass holders, and specified border documents. Airside transit without immigration is exempt.

- Declare cash and bearer instruments at USD 10000 equivalent or more pending confirmation: the general page includes equality, while the January 2025 leaflet says exceeding. - The health ministry permits up to 1 month of personal or accompanying immediate-family medication. Keep original packaging and an English prescription or translation stating medicine, dose and quantity; declare controlled medicines. - Overstay can lead to a fine and detention. Published Immigration pages disagree on whether MYR 10000 is a minimum or maximum court fine; no per-day calculator is justified. The compounding schedule separately gives a maximum of MYR 3000. Sources differ; confirm with the embassy or your airline.

Frequently asked questions
Do Egyptians need a tourist visa for Malaysia?
The named mission table gives Egyptian ordinary passports a visit exemption up to 90 days. The entry pass fixes the actual stay; MDAC and entry documents still apply.
Does Gulf residence give a Malaysia visa exemption?
Use your passport rule. The portal allows eligible visa-required applicants to apply while in another country with proof of residence or lawful stay; this is an application facility.
How much is the Malaysian electronic visa?
For most visa-required passports in this dataset, card payment totals MYR 126, about USD 30.84 at the 2026-10-06 reference rate. For a Sri Lankan passport it is MYR 120.96, about USD 29.60. The total includes processing and the card surcharge; wallet charges differ.
When should I apply for the visa and MDAC?
Apply for the visa at least 14 days before travel. Processing normally takes 2–7 working days, with extra time for questions or interviews. MDAC has a different deadline: arrival must be within 3 days including its submission date.
Can I show the approved visa on my phone?
Yes. The portal accepts the approved digital visa. A printed copy is also accepted; use A4 in colour or black and white.
Can I stay with a friend instead of a hotel?
The portal accepts a residential address. For the application, provide a cover letter with traveller details and the host name, identity number, address and phone, covering the full stay.
Do separate transit tickets change the visa requirement?
If baggage collection, re-check-in or an airport transfer requires crossing immigration, use the normal passport entry rule. Airside through transit is different. Do not rely on the old 120-hour transit facility; the mission lists it as suspended.
Can an Iraqi tourist stay longer than 30 days?
Baghdad publishes an optional single-entry visa for a visit up to 60 days. Apply by appointment at least 14 days before travel; its published fee is IQD 7000 and processing is 3 working days.
